Real Screen Printing — Not DTF
Most "screen printing" quotes you'll find at the bottom of a Google search aren't actually screen printing. They're DTF (Direct-to-Film) heat transfers being sold as screen print. The difference matters: screen-printed ink is pressed directly into the fiber of the garment and lasts the life of the shirt. DTF transfers sit on top of the fabric and crack within ~20 washes.
At Davy, every shirt we print runs through one of our screen-print presses in our Portland studio. We use plastisol for color saturation, water-based for soft hand-feel, and discharge ink for that vintage washed-in look on dark garments. Specialty inks — puff, metallic, glow, glitter — available on request.

Why Bands and Labels Pick Davy
- In-house, end-to-end. Same team designs, prints, and ships. No vendor coordination, no broken telephone between you and the press.
- Music-industry first. We work with indie bands, labels, festivals, and creative projects nationally. We understand release timelines, tour deadlines, and the difference between a hero piece and a fundraiser tee.
- Real screen print, no DTF. Every print is real ink in real fiber. We tell you up-front what method we're using.
- Transparent pricing. Quote It Yourself in 60 seconds — pick spec, see the number. No "request a quote, wait 3 days" runaround.
- Industry network access. When you sign with Davy, we put you in front of our roster of labels, sync houses, festival bookers, and fellow artists. No other Portland screen printer offers that.
- Multi-style bundles. Run the same design on tees + hoodies + long-sleeves and we combine the order — setup amortizes once, volume discount applies to the total.

01 · Quote
Use the calculator or email us. Get a real number same-day. No three-meeting sales process to get a price.

Send your art (vector preferred) or check "Need Design Help" — our team will design with you. Ink-color separations, garment-color compatibility, and ink-density planning all happen here.
03 · Approval
Mockup goes to you for sign-off. We don't burn screens until you've approved every color and placement.
04 · Production
Screens burn, garments arrive, and we run the press. 10–14 business days standard. Rush turnarounds (5–7 days) available for an upcharge.
05 · Ship
QC, fold, pack, ship. Drop-ship to your tour markets if you want — we coordinate venue routing for tour merch. Reorders within 60 days reuse screens at the same per-unit price.
Bring Your Own Blanks — Or We Source
Most clients let us source garments at distributor pricing — Bella, Champion, Comfort Colors, Independent. If you'd rather supply your own (own brand, partner deal, vintage stock), we charge a $2/unit handling fee and remove the garment markup. Ship blanks to our Portland warehouse, we'll print and return.

Frequently Asked
How much does screen printing cost in Portland?
At Davy, custom screen-printed t-shirts start at $325 for 25 units (1-color, Bella 3001). Multi-color and premium garments scale up — 3-color on Comfort Colors at 100 units lands around $11.75/unit. Our Quote It Yourself calculator gives you real numbers in 60 seconds — no "request a quote" runaround.
What's the minimum order?
25 units. Below that, the per-unit cost climbs because the screen setup doesn't amortize. For one-offs we recommend our heat-press vinyl option, or we can refer you to a local print-on-demand partner.
Do you screen print in-house or send work out?
Everything is screen-printed in our Portland warehouse. We don't outsource. Same team that designs your art prints it, packs it, and ships it. That's why we control color, timeline, and quality end-to-end.
What's the difference between screen printing and DTF transfers?
Screen printing pushes ink directly into the fiber — it lasts the life of the shirt and feels like part of the fabric. DTF (Direct-to-Film) and heat transfers sit on top of the fabric and crack within ~20 washes. We screen-print only. If a quote elsewhere seems too cheap to be true, it's probably DTF being sold as "screen print." Ask the shop directly which method they use.
How fast is your turnaround?
Standard turnaround is 10–14 business days from artwork approval. Rush (5–7 days) available for an upcharge. Tour deadlines get prioritized — tell us your show date in your quote notes and we'll work backward.
Can I supply my own shirts?
Yes. Toggle BYO blanks on the quote calculator. We charge a $2/unit handling fee and remove the garment markup. Ship blanks to our Portland warehouse, we print and return.
What ink types do you use?
Plastisol (vivid color, durability), water-based (soft hand-feel), discharge (vintage washed-in look on dark garments), and specialty inks like puff, metallic, glow-in-the-dark, and glitter on request.
Do you design my screen-print artwork?
Yes. Toggle "Need Design Help" on the quote calculator. Our in-house team works with you on color separations, garment-color compatibility, and ink density. Pricing is project-specific — we'll quote scope after seeing references.
Can you do tour merch with venue routing?
Yes. Tour merch is one of our core specialties. Tell us the markets and dates and we'll handle production timing and venue drop-ship.
Do you do reorders?
Yes. Reorders within 60 days reuse the original screens at the same per-unit price — no setup fee a second time. After 60 days the screens get reclaimed; reorders past that point pay setup again.
